Dungeons and Dragons serves as a foundation for creativity, where the players can be whoever they want and the Dungeon Master can have their dreams play out before them.
Shows like Dimension 20 and Critical Role show this excellently with their beautifully crafted stories and carefully picked cast who really just bring everything to life, becoming many people's gateway into D&D.
Ultimately though, the game boils down to a group of friends competing to see who can make the DM regret their life choices the most - and we can certainly do that.
